SALARIED GP (TO PROVIDE MATERNITY COVER)

To enable our practice to grow and develop, we are looking for the following person to temporarily join our GP team to cover maternity leave from early December.

Experienced General Practitioner providing up to 8 sessions per week. Hours may include week days until 20:00 and some weekends.

Applicants should possess appropriate qualifications as per the job description, BMA model contract job plans and to be able to work as part of a team, as well as lone working.

Main duties of the job

The Salaried GP will provide clinical care to HarborneMedical patients, and patients using our Hub (where relevant). The Salaried GPwill also be expected to participate in educational, staff, and whole practicemeetings where available. The SalariedGP is encouraged to participate in any other relevant activities to supporttheir professional development and the service and strategic development of thepractice. This includes ongoing medical education, clinical governance, auditand teaching within the practice.

The Salaried GP is expected to work according tothe Job Plan provided, to provide continuity of care for out patients.

The practice operates an on-call system whichincludes an AM and PM responsibility. The Salaried GP will be expected to undertakethis duty on a scheduled basis.

The Salaried GP will be expected to carry out theadministration duties associated with the patients they see, within theirworking day.

The salaried GP will be expected to undertake otherreasonable duties including performing medicals, filling in forms including cremationforms, perform medication reviews and respond to medication queries.

The Salaried GP will be responsible for carrying out anyother reasonable duties within their overall function, commensurate with thegrading and level of responsibility of the post.


About us

Harborne Medical Practice is a lively, modern and well established teaching practice in the center of Harborne. As well as excellent general practice and nursing provision, our services also include Hub provision for our PCN, Phlebotomy and Minor Surgery, along with specialist clinics for conditions such as Asthma and Diabetes, to name but a few. We are part of the Harborne PCN and have a fantastic family-friendly staff team consisting of 7 partners, 7 Salaried GP's, 30 administrative, Secretarial and Nursing staff and approximately 16,000 patients on our list. Our clinical team is supported by a number of Allied Health Professionals, including GP Assistant, Physiotherapists, Mental Health Practitioners, Social Prescriber, Health and Wellbeing Coach and Clinical Pharmacists.

Our lovely practice has expanded in the last few years, with the addition of 8 clinical spaces and an IT Suite the practice can now offer 20 clinical rooms. We are known for our modern, progressive approach to both the provision of patient care and support for our staff team. We see ourselves as highly innovative, taking great pride in everything we do and are rated 'Good' by CQC.


Job responsibilities

Triage,diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care forpatients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis

Clinicallyexamine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychologicalperspective, and plan clinical care accordingly

Assess,diagnosis, plan, implement and evaluate interventions/treatments for patientswith complex needs

Proactivelyidentify, diagnose and manage treatment plans for patients at risk ofdeveloping a long-term condition (as appropriate)

Diagnoseand manage both acute and chronic conditions

Prescribeand review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patientneeds and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national andpractice protocols, and within the scope of practice

Workwith patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribedtreatments

Provideinformation and advice on prescribed or over-the-counter medication onmedication regimens, side-effects and interactions

Prioritisehealth problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex,urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergencycare

Supportpatients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthylifestyles, and apply principles of self-care.

Supportand manage health needs of women presenting for family planning, cervicalcytology or sexual health consultation

Assess,identify and refer patients presenting with mental health needs in accordancewith the NSF for Mental Health

Implementand participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adultsand children where appropriate

Undertakeminor surgery as appropriate to competence

Develop policies and procedures relevant forlocal and collaborative working and clinical improvement.

Carry our any other reasonable duties within the overallfunction, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of thepost.

Ensures self-compliance with data protection lawsand confidentiality agreements, and only shares patient information withauthorities and organisations where appropriate to do so.

Accesses medical records only when there isreason to do so, and treats all information from any source a strictlyconfidential.

Follows confidentiality policy, computer usepolicy, information governance policy, social media policy and any otherpolicy relating to confidentiality within the role.

The post holder will be supported withprofessional and personal development in line with the relevant HarborneMedical policies.

Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working within General Practice within the last two years
* Computer literate, including knowledge of clinical systems, and the Microsoft Office package.
* Experience of training and/or mentoring
* Auditing experience
* Assisting in development of protocols and clinical guidelines
* Previous experience working in a Primary Care setting in an area with significant health problems
* Previous experience of on-line triage
* Previous experience of EPS Prescribing


Qualifications

* Eligible to practice independently as a GP in the UK
* Full GMC Registration with GP Registration
* Entry onto the Medical Performers List
* Medical Defence Membership
* Enhanced DBS
* MRCGP
* Qualified GP Trainer


Knowledge and Skills

* Excellent clinical and communication skills
* Management of patients with complex needs
* Excellent understanding of the health economy
* Skilled at telephone consultation
* General Understanding of the GMS Contract
* Knowledge of the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF)
* Knowledge of the Emis clinical system.
* Knowledge of local and national public health issues
* Knowledge of on-line triage, ideally with the BLINX system.
