Locum Consultant in Acute General Medicine
This post offers the opportunity to join a supportive and progressive team of Acute Physicians at Glangwili General Hospital, within Hywel Dda University Health Board. The Health Board serves a large and varied population across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire, providing care to both rural and coastal communities across West Wales.

The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of the Acute Medicine service across the Emergency Department, Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). The role supports Hywel Dda's commitment to integrated, patient-centred care across hospital and community services.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the continued growth of the service, working collaboratively with consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to support both inpatient care and innovative community-based pathways.
Main duties of the job
* Provide acute assessment, diagnosis and treatment for medical patients presenting at the front door of Glangwili General Hospital, including the Emergency Department, CDU and SDEC.
* Provide effective clinical leadership to multidisciplinary teams working across CDU, SDEC and the Emergency Department.
* Work closely with GP colleagues and other medical teams to ensure coordinated and appropriate patient care across hospital and community settings.
* Deliver timely assessment and treatment for patients presenting with acute medical conditions.
* Promote close and effective working between A&E, SDEC and CDU to support patient flow and safety.
* Provide consultant-level clinical supervision of medical patients managed within SDEC and the Emergency Department.
* Work collaboratively with consultant colleagues across medicine to develop seamless and efficient pathways of care.
* Contribute to the development of "hot clinics" as an alternative to hospital admission where suitable.
* Maintain strong liaison with primary care colleagues to ensure patients are directed to the most appropriate services.
* Support the development, education and ongoing practice of nurse consultants and advanced nurse practitioners.
* Provide training, supervision and professional support for junior doctors.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council.
* Completion of relevant Royal College Examinations (or equivalent).
* Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
Clinical Experience
* Broad based experience within the specialty area.
* Able to demonstrate core competencies and clinical skills relevant to the post.
* Evidence of leading a team.
* Previous experience working in the UK or NHS.
Clinical Governance
* Understanding of the role of Clinical Governance.
* Understanding of clinical audit (or quality improvement project).
* Knowledge of annual job planning/appraisal review process.
