About The Role: Being responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious, balanced meals catering to a high volume of diners each day. This role involves creating menus that meet dietary standards, managing stock and orders efficiently, and ensuring all food is prepared in accordance with hygiene and safety regulations. This is a temporary to permanent position. The role offers an excellent opportunity to transfer to a permanent contract after 12 weeks of work for the right candidates. Working Monday to Friday 7.30am to 3pm / 3.30pm finish. The rate of pay is £19.72 per hour. Roles and Responsibilities: Meal Planning and Preparation * Plan and prepare balanced, nutritious, and appealing meals in line with school food standards. * Create weekly menus that cater to different age groups and dietary requirements (e.g. allergies, vegetarian, cultural needs). * Ensure portion control and consistency in quality and presentation. Food Safety and Hygiene * Maintain the highest standards of kitchen hygiene and food safety at all times. * Follow HACCP procedures and complete daily temperature checks and cleaning records. * Ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental health, and allergen regulations. Kitchen Management * Supervise and support kitchen assistants and other catering staff. * Organise workflow to ensure meals are prepared and served on time. * Manage stock levels, place food orders, and minimise waste. Budgeting and Cost Control * Work within allocated budgets while maintaining food quality. * Monitor food usage, portion sizes, and waste to ensure efficiency. * Seek cost-effective suppliers and seasonal produce options. Collaboration and Communication * Work closely with school leadership, teachers, and catering teams to plan special menus and themed days. * Communicate effectively with pupils and staff about meal options and dietary needs. * Promote healthy eating habits through engaging food choices and presentation. Continuous Improvement * Keep up to date with food trends, nutritional guidance, and school meal policies. * Participate in training and development opportunities to improve skills and maintain standards. About you: * Experience Chef with a minimum of 3 years’ experience. * Have an enhanced DBS check. * Have a background in large scale meal preparation * Passionate about creating healthy, balanced, and tasty meals. * Knowledgeable about food safety, hygiene standard, and allergen management. * Organised and able to manage time effectively in a busy kitchen environment. * Friendly and approachable, with excellent communication skills when working with pupils and school staff.
