We are looking for a Locum Community Mental Health Practitioner to cover an assignment with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), at MHT Preston, in Preston, Lancashire.

This is a locum role (25.5 hours per week) and the successful candidate will deliver an exceptional standard of care to MoD service personnel.


Pay rates

PAYE – £26.64 per hour

Umbrella – £30.64 per hour


Responsibilities

* Provide an outpatient occupationally focused community mental health service within the AOR of the Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH)/liaison role, including leading in the organisation and delivery of high‑intensity therapeutic interventions, educational, training and mental health promotion regimes in collaboration with the multi‑disciplinary team at the DCMH.
* Manage a caseload of complex cases in line with the experience and specialist knowledge held.
* Carry out complex mental health assessments and subsequent reviews for personnel referred to the DCMH.
* Maintain responsibility for an identified caseload by reviewing client needs and providing flexible and individualised care packages to meet the mental health needs of military personnel.
* Maintain contemporaneous accurate electronic records and clinical notes of all client contact.
* Provide reports to and maintain liaison with Medical Officers (MOs), General Practitioners and other relevant professional agencies.
* Participate in and provide clinical supervision and caseload management for more junior mental health clinicians.
* Provide supervision for secondary and tertiary clinical interventions.
* Be an integral part of the Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) and participate in departmental clinical and business meetings, taking the lead in initiatives as directed by the Network or Team Manager.
* Recognise limits of competence and seek clinical supervision or advice as appropriate.
* Have an in‑depth knowledge of Health Governance (HG) and the ability to lead on specific domains as directed by the HG lead.
* Deliver up‑to‑date, evidence‑based interventions for mental health problems based on guidance from NICE and the National Treatment Agency (NTA).


Qualifications – Mandatory Options

1. Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registration as an occupational therapist, practitioner psychologist, or Social Work England Registered Social Worker with post‑graduate training and accreditation in a NICE‑recognised modality for common mental disorders (e.g. CBT, DIT, IPT, Counselling for Depression).
2. Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Registered Mental Health Nurse with post‑graduate training and accreditation in a NICE‑recognised modality for common mental disorders.
3. United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) or British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) registered psychotherapist with post‑graduate training and accreditation in a NICE‑recognised modality for common mental disorders.


Experience & Professional Requirements

* Must have 3 years’ experience in a Mental Health role delivering therapy.
* Demonstrable experience of working as a graduate‑level professional in adult mental health.
* Experience of working in adult community mental health.
* Experience of service and/or line management responsibility.
* Must be in date for Basic Life Support (BLS), Anaphylaxis, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and able to provide certification.
* Must hold current, valid personal medical indemnity insurance.
* Must be in date and able to provide certification for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Safeguarding Adults up to and including Level 3 training.
