This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership to the Hazardous Waste team, overseeing the day-to-day activities of the regime. This role involves working alongside regulatory reform initiatives and supporting the transition of the regime from reform to ‘business as usual’.
The role duties and responsibilities include:
1. Providing technical leadership in waste classification
2. Leading Hazardous Waste compliance efforts and initiatives to improve compliance
3. Enhancing leadership of priority waste streams
4. Offering technical support focused on priority waste streams, driven by area and national teams
5. Tackling regulatory challenges, improving the regulatory regime, and supporting Defra's circular economy work on Hazardous Waste
6. Supporting enforcement actions to reduce offending, aligned with the control strategy
The team
The Environment & Business (E&B) Hazardous Waste team is a small, high-performing team within the Regime Regulation team of E&B Waste Regulation. We lead on hazardous waste management, supporting government, industry, and colleagues to ensure proper handling of hazardous waste.
