Job Description
Specialist Health and Safety Lawyer – Career Transition Opportunity (Cheshire)
A rare opportunity to retrain into meaningful, specialist legal work — with real responsibility.
Cheshire based | Full or Part Time | 12-Month Retraining Role
Do you feel your career has stalled — not through lack of ability, but lack of opportunity?
We are a small, specialist law firm with a national reputation in health and safety enforcement, regulatory defence and compliance advisory work, supporting clients involved in serious incidents, investigations and prosecutions. Our work is complex, high-impact and genuinely meaningful.
Alongside the legal practice, we also run a respected specialist training business, meaning our work requires not only legal skill but also clear thinking, excellent research discipline and strong communication and presentation capability.
We are offering an exceptional opportunity for the right lawyer to retrain into this specialist field through a structured 12-month programme, with a clear pathway to a permanent role.
Who we’re looking for
You may currently be working in:
* civil litigation
* criminal litigation
* personal injury
* professional discipline
* or another disputes-based area
Likely around 2–6 PQE (guide only), you will be someone who:
* has handled demanding clients, deadlines and pressure
* communicates clearly and confidently, and asks sensible clarifying questions
* has strong analytical and research discipline
* is curious, commercially aware and motivated by excellent work
* is emotionally mature, able to take feedback constructively and apply it
* values professionalism, responsibility and integrity
Experience in health and safety or regulatory work is welcome but not essential - the right capability, mindset and maturity matter more.
What we offer
* a structured 12-month retraining programme with clear development milestones
* involvement in serious, high-profile and meaningful legal matters
* mentoring and supervision from highly experienced lawyers
* increasing autonomy as competence develops
* exposure to training and presentation work where appropriate
* a collaborative, professional environment with high standards
* competitive salary appropriate to experience, with review opportunities
If the fit is right and performance is strong, the intention is to move into a permanent role with a meaningful long-term pathway.
Location and working pattern
This role is ideally office-based in Cheshire, as learning alongside the team is an important part of development.
We are open to full-time or part-time, with some flexibility.
