Salary: £55,000 - 55,000 per year Requirements: Strong, hands-on experience working with Microfocus COBOL, especially in building or maintaining large-scale systems. Awareness of additional technologies such as Tuxedo, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and scripting languages. Understanding of tools or languages like Python, Java, Ansible, Jira, and cloud platforms such as AWS. Knowledge of SQL and the fundamentals of object-oriented principles. Awareness of test-driven development and approaches like business-driven development. Understanding of automated testing and its role in continuous deployment environments. Responsibilities: Maintain and modernise platforms that deliver over £150bn in payments annually. Lead refactoring work across major COBOL applications and prepare them for strategic technology shifts. Coach and mentor junior engineers, supporting those in our Engineering Academy. Provide 3rd-line support, resolving complex technical issues requiring deep system understanding. Lead technical improvements to legacy codebases and plan infrastructure maintenance. Address live service challenges and influence future modernisation programmes.
