Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 7 to join our dynamic, friendly and award winning bladder cancer specialist nursing team based at Guys Hospital at London Bridge. The post is for an 18 month fixed term contract.

GSTT is a urological cancer centre of excellence receiving referrals from South East London and nationally. We provide diagnostics as well as state of the art treatments including TULA, radical cystectomy including bladder sparing surgery, systemic therapies and radiotherapy.

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated nurse with excellent communication skills who has an interest in developing her CNS skills or extending her current portfolio of skills and abilities You need to be able to prioritise your workload and assist us in meeting NHS Cancer waiting time and network targets whilst maintaining the patient experience and supporting them and their families through their cancer journey. You must be an experienced urology nurse with experience of looking after people with bladder cancer as well as proven excellent time management and communication skills. Experience in delivering intravesical chemotherapy is desirable but full training and mentorship will be available to the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

1. Coordinate and manage patient care from diagnosis through treatment, follow-up, and survivorship, ensuring a seamless patient experience.
2. Provide specialist advice, information, education, and emotional support to patients, families, and carers, helping them make informed decisions about their care.
3. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised care for patients undergoing bladder cancer treatments, including surgery, systemic therapies, radiotherapy, and bladder-preserving treatments.
4. Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, contributing specialist nursing expertise to treatment planning and decision-making.
5. Coordinate investigations, referrals, and treatment pathways to ensure compliance with NHS Cancer Waiting Time standards and network targets.
6. Develop and maintain effective communication with consultants, allied health professionals, primary care teams, and external organisations to optimise patient care.
7. Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, audits, and research activities to enhance bladder cancer services.
8. Support education and training of nursing colleagues and other healthcare professionals within the urology and oncology services.
9. Act as a patient advocate, ensuring that patient-centred care, dignity, and experience remain central to service delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Bladder Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will play a pivotal role in providing expert, patient-centred care to individuals diagnosed with bladder cancer throughout their treatment journey. Working within a highly regarded specialist nursing team at Guy's Hospital, the post holder will act as a key worker for patients and their families, offering clinical expertise, emotional support, education, and advocacy from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up. The role requires close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, high-quality care and an excellent patient experience.

The successful candidate will contribute to the management of complex bladder cancer pathways within a centre of excellence that delivers a wide range of advanced diagnostic and treatment options. They will support the delivery of safe, effective, and timely care, helping the service achieve NHS Cancer Waiting Time standards and network targets while maintaining a strong focus on quality and patient outcomes. The role also provides opportunities to develop advanced clinical skills, participate in service improvement initiatives, and contribute to education, audit, and research activities.

Applicants should be experienced urology nurses with knowledge of bladder cancer care, excellent communication and organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities within a busy clinical environment. Experience in delivering intravesical chemotherapy is desirable; however, training and mentorship will be provided. 10. BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
11. Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience.
