The role
As a Senior EC&I Engineer, you’ll take technical ownership of bespoke electrical, control, and instrumentation systems, spanning both hardware and software design.
Key responsibilities include:
*
Defining and delivering EC&I system specifications in line with demanding client requirements
*
Designing and integrating safety-critical controls into complex machinery and handling systems
*
Producing documentation including Basis of Design, FDS, and SDS
*
Performing reliability calculations and SIL assessments using tools such as SISTEMA
*
Developing and checking electrical schematics and control drawings (EPLAN preferred)
*
Programming PLCs/HMIs (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider) and developing interface logic
*
Supporting FAT/SAT, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
*
Leading design risk assessments and ensuring compliance with BS EN 13849, BS EN 61508, and BS EN 62061
*
Mentoring junior engineers and promoting functional-safety best practice
*
Managing subcontractors and suppliers to maintain technical quality and compliance
About you
*
Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline
*
Skilled across both hardware (schematics, panels, drives, instrumentation) and software (PLC/HMI)
*
Sound knowledge of functional safety with experience using tools such as SISTEMA
*
Familiar with Amtech and modern variable-speed drives
*
Confident communicator able to lead design reviews and liaise directly with clients
*
Full UK driving licence and flexibility for occasional site work
*
Desirable: Chartered status or functional-safety certification, and experience with cranes, heavy machinery, or large-scale automation
