The role
As a Mechanical Fitter within our EHJ Facility, you’ll take on a role that’s out of the ordinary — one that’s critical to supporting national defence. You’ll be working on complex mechanical systems that keep our operations running safely and efficiently. Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Completing planned preventative maintenance and nuclear-implicated work to meet business objectives
2. Identifying and rectifying system defects and alterations to maintain EHJ system performance
3. Suggesting improvements to processes and systems to boost productivity
4. Working within all health and safety legislation and safe systems of work
5. Carrying out mechanical fitting activities, repairs, and inspections across facilities.
This is a full-time, permanent position, working 36 hours per week, Monday to Thursday (07:15 – 16:45), giving you a three-day weekend to balance work and life.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter:
6. Previous experience in a marine or industrial engineering environment, or mechanical maintenance
7. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and solve problems effectively
8. Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions
9. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards
10. Knowledge of maintenance procedures, risk assessments, and COSHH regulations.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter:
11. Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (or NVQ/C&G equivalent)
12. HNC or above in a Mechanical Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience.
