Environment Agency – Strategy Directorate – Full‑time – National role
Overview
This high‑profile officer supports the Agency’s strategic thinking and strengthens its reputation with Government, Parliament and key stakeholders. You will collaborate on flood risk, climate adaptation, environmental protection, circular economy and water resources, supporting emergency response during major flood incidents.
Key Responsibilities
* Coordinate and quality‑assure responses to high‑profile requests and ministerial correspondence.
* Manage shared inboxes, track actions and improve information flow.
* Support responses to parliamentary questions, ministerial or senior briefings.
* Deliver impactful engagement with external stakeholders.
* Monitor trends, government and political activity and share intelligence across the organisation.
* Build and maintain effective relationships across the Defra Group and senior leadership.
* Support incident management activities.
Qualifications & Experience
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to present information clearly and accurately.
* A flexible approach with ability to deliver high‑quality work to tight deadlines.
* Resilience under pressure and confidence in seeking guidance and support.
* Experience in a customer‑facing or stakeholder engagement role, building relationships and maintaining a positive reputation.
* Strong organisational skills, including effective management of knowledge and information.
* Understanding of parliamentary and government processes or experience in stakeholder engagement (desirable but not essential).
* Self‑motivated, highly organised, adaptable and able to maintain high standards under pressure.
Experience and Skills Required
Self‑motivated, highly organised, adaptable and able to maintain high standards under pressure. You will manage the team’s shared inboxes on a day‑to‑day basis, track actions and explore ways to improve the flow of information. You will also manage ministerial correspondence, ensuring quality‑assured responses are delivered to deadline.
Location
National – EA Office base. Hybrid/work‑from‑home flexible. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
