JOB PURPOSE
Responsible individually or as a member of a team for supervising children and maintaining discipline for children remaining on the school premises throughout the mid-day break (i.e., the interval between the close of morning school and the re-opening of school in the afternoon).
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist in supervising children in all areas of the school and grounds to ensure health and safety regulations are observed and school discipline is enforced.
2. Liaise with the principal/senior supervisory assistant on all matters related to mid-day supervision.
3. Handle minor problems, accidents, sicknesses, and report serious incidents to the principal/senior supervisory assistant immediately.
4. Supervise children during meals and packed lunches, including:
1. Managing the movement of children between classrooms and dining areas, including outside the school premises.
2. Supervising queues, seating arrangements, and circulation of pupils to and from service points.
3. Monitoring the conduct of diners.
5. Be responsible for:
1. Collecting dinner tickets where appropriate.
2. Distributing meals within the dining area as needed.
3. Performing ancillary duties such as cleaning spillages, clearing and cleaning tables, and removing litter from areas used for eating, including packed lunch areas.
4. Assisting children as necessary.
6. Perform duties related to cash cafeterias as delegated.
7. Ensure all duties comply with:
1. The Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978.
2. Relevant Acts of Parliament, statutory instruments, regulations, and legal requirements.
3. Codes of Practice.
8. Perform all duties inherent in the job's working conditions.
9. Complete all necessary paperwork accurately and promptly.
10. Carry out any other duties within the same grade and competence as assigned by the employer.
