Fabric Engineer
Location: Stowmarket Salary: £32,000 per annum Hours: Monday-Friday, 08:00-16:30 (flexible) Contract: Permanent Reporting to: Site Supervisor
Overview
We are seeking a proactive and hands‑on Fabric Engineer to join the on‑site facilities team. You will deliver a mix of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive tasks, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of buildings and associated assets. This is a client‑facing role with excellent opportunities for training and career progression, including potential to step into a supervisory position.
Key Responsibilities
Planned & Reactive Maintenance (70/30 split):
* Carry out scheduled PPM across building fabric and basic M&E systems
* Attend and resolve day‑to‑day reactive maintenance tasks
Compliance & Safety Checks:
* Emergency lighting testing
* L8 water hygiene checks
* Fire alarm testing
* Sprinkler system checks
* Emergency eyewash and safety shower inspections
General Maintenance & Fabric Duties:
* Filter cleans and plant room inspections
* Groundskeeping and general site upkeep
* Supporting other Fabric Technicians and the wider FM team
* Diagnosing basic boiler and HVAC faults
* Checking breakers and power systems (safe isolation competence desirable)
* Carrying out small installations or minor works where suitably skilled
Contractor & Client Support:
* Liaise with and oversee external contractors carrying out specialist works
* Attend client meetings in the absence of the Site Supervisor
* Maintain positive client relationships and uphold site standards

* Building operating hours may vary; may include 24/7 operational environments

* Contractors used for specialist works

What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
* No mandatory formal qualifications required
* A trade background (electrical, mechanical etc.) desirable
Skills & Experience
* Experience in building maintenance or facilities management
* Strong fabric maintenance skillset
* Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
* Good communication and client‑facing skills
* Competence to safely assess basic electrical and mechanical faults
