Job Title: Inspector - Water Network & Trunk Main Asset Maintenance

Location: Otterbourne- Hampshire

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: 37

Salary: £32,000 per annum depending on skills and experience plus company van

About the role


As an Inspector - Water Network & Trunk Main Asset Maintenance (internally known as Trunk Asset Maintenance Inspector), you will play a vital role in safeguarding Southern Water’s strategic water network. This position is key to maintaining and improving the operational integrity of our trunk mains, ensuring water quality and reducing the risk of supply interruptions for our customers.

You’ll be responsible for monitoring, diagnosing, and maintaining critical assets, managing access routes, operating valves, performing minor remediation works, and updating internal systems to keep our Asset Management Teams informed. This is a hands-on role that combines technical expertise, problem-solving, and collaboration.

What you will be responsible for

1. Inspect and monitor trunk mains assets, identifying defects, risks, and areas requiring attention and record accurate asset and inspection data in company systems.
2. Laise with landowners and partners to arrange safe access to sites.
3. Maintain water quality standards by following operational procedures and completing routine checks.
4. Carry out valve operations, low‑complexity repairs, and occasional night‑time work when required.
5. Support emergency operational activities as part of the wider response team.
6. Engage confidently with internal and external stakeholders during routine and reactive work.
7. Clear vegetation and maintain safe access routes as needed to support site operations.
