About The Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer who can lead, manage, coach, and develop a small team of engineers supporting the delivery of business demand for data and insights for the Finance and Actuarial teams. The role involves managing stakeholder relationships, prioritizing tasks to maximize value, ensuring the timely availability and accuracy of financial data, and acting as a SME within the Data Office for Finance and Actuarial demand.
This role is based in our Bournemouth offices. Hybrid working is offered, but presence in the office is preferred (flexible to discuss).
Key Accountabilities
1. Lead, manage, coach, and support a team of engineers working with on-premises and cloud technologies to develop and maintain centralized data platforms that meet operational and strategic data needs.
2. Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate data requirements into actionable data requests and solutions, continuously seeking improvement opportunities.
3. Plan and prioritize data requests to align with business needs in a controlled manner.
4. Contribute to the development and enhancement of technical data standards and ensure quality assurance of data products.
5. Serve as the Data Workstream Lead for change portfolios, providing technical guidance and ensuring solutions align with data strategy and standards.
6. Manage and review the work of engineers and offshore delivery partners, acting as a mentor and sharing best practices.
7. Ensure all data processes and reports are well-documented and data governance and quality standards are maintained and improved.
Skills & Experience
* Extensive experience with data extraction, manipulation, and reporting using Microsoft stack tools: SSMS, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS.
* Support for on-premises systems and migration to cloud (Fabric/Azure technologies).
* Proven expertise in data warehousing, ETL processes, programming, and data management best practices.
* Experience with Azure BI/MI tools: DataBricks, Data Factory, Power BI.
* Knowledge of data security, quality, and accuracy tools and processes.
* Experience implementing data quality standards.
* Understanding of Finance & Actuarial processes, including regulatory and reporting requirements in a Mutual/Insurance context.
* Exceptional communication skills, able to engage with non-technical audiences, manage expectations, and collaborate with end users.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
* Proven relationship-building skills internally and externally.
* Quick learner with strong prioritization skills.
* Experience leading development work streams within data-centric or technical projects.
