Our client, Peterhead Port Authority, is seeking a VTS operator & Boatman to act as the representative of the Harbour Master and supervise the safe and efficient movement of all vessels along with the safe operation of port work boats. It is expected that the role will be split between both different aspects on around a 50/50 basis. Please note applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK and stay within 1 hour travel distance to Peterhead prior to applying. Key Responsibilities: VTS Operator: Utilize radar, AIS, and VHF radio to track and manage vessel movements with VTS area. Provide timely navigational advice and traffic management information to vessel operators. Ensure compliance with maritime safety regulations to prevent collisions and incidents. Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, incidents, weather and communications. Collaborate with other PPA departments, pilots, stakeholders and other maritime agencies to facilitate smooth operations and address any issues that may arise. Act as the primary point of contact during emergency situations, coordinating responses and providing guidance to vessels and emergency services. Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry standards, technology, and best practices. Timely input of data into PMIS relating to vessel movements, pilotage, and launch utilisation. Ensure all operational records and logs are maintained. Boatman: Carry out the role of Coxswain/Deckhand when engaged in harbour cleaning, maintenance and towage operations. Take instruction from VTS regarding safe navigation within the port and port limits. Ensure the harbour is kept clean and free from debris. Maintain accurate records of towage movements and vessel maintenance. Conduct routine maintenance and ensure a high-level cleanliness of port work boats. Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, including man-overboard incidents, mechanical failures, fires, floods, first aid or adverse weather conditions. Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry standards, technology, and best practices. Comply with all relevant PPA and external policies and procedures. Implement and enforce safety procedures onboard, including the use of PPE. Carry out such other duties as may from time to time be required. Ability to operate safely in a dynamic marine environment, looking after personal safety and the safety of colleagues. Qualifications, Skills and Experience: V103/1 Operator Certificate or the ability to obtain one - Essential V103/2 Supervisor Certificate - Desirable Valid medical – Standard set by PPA Good working knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code MCA approved Certificate of Competency / Class 1 or Class 2 Fishing or approved RYA boat master license. Valid ENG1 Medical Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude when under pressure Ability to work without direct supervision Diplomacy when dealing with internal and external stakeholders Ability to work under operational pressures and to work to tight operational deadlines Ability to provide emergency cover in the event of a marine or similar incident Proactive approach to safety Capability to perform duties during varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays In depth local knowledge of port forming part of OTJ assessment for VTS Endorsement Excellent local knowledge of Peterhead Port.
