One of my local government clients is currently recruiting for an experienced Business Support Officer / Minute Taker. This is a temporary contract initially for 3 months, with strong potential for extension depending on performance and budget.
This opportunity sits within the Children’s Services team at Walsall Council, and is critical in supporting meetings involving vulnerable children, families, and multi-agency professionals. Your work will directly support safeguarding processes and legal proceedings.
The Role – Why Minute Taking Matters
Minute taking in this role is not just administrative it is essential and central to the safeguarding process. You will be responsible for producing formal written records of sensitive, high-stakes meetings, often involving child protection. These documents are used in legal settings, so precision, confidentiality, and speed are vital.
You must be confident in:

Typing minutes during live meetings
*
Transcribing notes into professionally formatted documents
*
Delivering work within a 72-hour turnaround time
*
Writing in a tone suitable to be read by or about the child involved
Key Responsibilities
*
Attend and record meetings within Children’s Services (both virtually and onsite as required)
*
Type and format minutes accurately and clearly, often in emotionally sensitive contexts
*
Upload documentation to the Mosaic system
*
Monitor shared inboxes and respond to queries
*
Manage diaries, appointments, and assist the wider business support team
*
Act as a first point of contact for calls and correspondence
Essential Skills & Experience
*
Extensive experience in minute taking—this is not a general admin role
*
Fast and accurate touch typing skills
*
Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
*
Experience in a local government or social care setting is highly desirable
*
Proficiency in document formatting and case management systems (Mosaic a plus)
*
Strong interpersonal skills and discretion when handling confidential material
