Mill Creek Middle School Principal – Comstock Park, Michigan
JOB SUMMARY
The Principal is an instructional leader with a deep understanding of teaching and learning in the twenty-first century and the school’s responsibility to prepare students for success in a rapidly changing global society.
We are seeking candidates who display a strong desire and ability to make an impact on students and the greater community both within and outside of the classroom.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Successful experience as a principal, principal intern, assistant principal, or teacher leader who holds a valid teaching and administrative certificate
2. Demonstrated results in raising student achievement and implementing effective intervention strategies
3. Experience transforming a team or organizational unit
4. Experience using the state-approved 5D Teacher Evaluation Framework
5. Strong background in literacy instruction
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
6. Act in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional standards
7. Maintain a clear focus on student learning guided by relevant and timely achievement data
8. Promote collaboration and shared leadership focused on effective teaching practices
9. Support the implementation of best instructional practices to improve student achievement
10. Observe classrooms regularly, provide feedback to teachers, and support connections between district initiatives and classroom instruction
11. Model effective instructional leadership and a commitment to continuous learning
12. Establish clear, measurable goals focused on improving learning for all students
13. Build and sustain a professional culture in which teacher teams collaborate regularly to: Establish essential learning goals Develop common formative assessments Examine student work Provide intervention and enrichment in a continuous cycle of improvement
14. Provide clear, ongoing evaluations aligned with the district’s teacher evaluation model
15. Create leadership and recognition opportunities for high-performing staff and address performance concerns when standards are not met
16. Develop systems that support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, understanding, and mutual respect
17. Engage parents and families as partners in student learning
18. Respond to stakeholder concerns in a timely and professional manner
19. Seek and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to improve professional practice
20. Model and facilitate the use of multiple forms of student-level data to guide instructional decisions and close achievement gaps
21. Assign teachers to classrooms and students to classes
22. Participate in district-wide activities, professional development, and committees as appropriate
23. Implement policies and procedural changes from the Board of Education and state and federal agencies at the building level
24. Maintain current knowledge of legal and financial developments in educational legislation
25. Maintain appropriate certification by completing required coursework (6 credit hours or 18 CEUs every five years)
26. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
27. Master’s degree in education or a related field
28. Experience with RTI/MTSS and evidence-based instructional practices
29. Experience using data to drive student achievement and school improvement
30. Experience with PBIS and Leader in Me programs, including development and revision based on building needs
31. Demonstrated visionary leadership with the ability to execute strategic goals
32. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a minimum of five years of teaching experience and a valid Michigan Administrator Certificate for grades 6-8
