Develop Practice. Inspire Learning. Improve Outcomes Where It Matters Most.
If you are passionate about developing people, improving SEND practice and ensuring children and young people receive the very best support, this is a role where your influence will be felt across an entire service.
Lancashire’s Inclusion Service is committed to continuous improvement, professional excellence and inclusive, child‑centred practice. We know that high‑quality outcomes for children and young people with SEND depend on confident, skilled and well‑supported practitioners.
As our new Practice Development Officer, you will play a crucial role in shaping how SEND practice is developed, embedded and sustained across the service—leading learning, strengthening quality assurance and helping teams turn insight into impact.
This is a role for someone who thrives on collaboration, reflection and making lasting improvements to practice.
About the Role
Working closely with senior leaders, managers and frontline teams, you will lead the development and delivery of high‑quality training, induction and professional development across SEND services. You will coordinate structured programmes such as the SEND Academy, support new starters throughout their journey and ensure learning remains current, consistent and evidence‑informed.
You will use audit findings, performance data, inspection outcomes and feedback from children and families to identify development needs and translate these into targeted learning opportunities. You will contribute to quality assurance activity, support inspection readiness and help embed learning from reviews, complaints and LGSCO findings.
Alongside this, you will support the development and refresh of SEND procedures, contribute to policy and improvement projects, and act as a source of expert advice and guidance—promoting inclusive, child‑centred practice across the Inclusion Service.
This is a role that sits at the intersection of learning, quality and improvement, offering real scope to shape how services develop and deliver.
About You
You will bring strong experience of SEND practice, service improvement and supporting others to develop professionally. You have a thorough understanding of SEND legislation, statutory guidance and safeguarding responsibilities, and you are confident interpreting and embedding policy into everyday practice.
You are skilled at designing and delivering impactful CPD, working collaboratively across teams and using evidence, data and feedback to drive improvement. You can challenge and support practitioners constructively, communicate complex information clearly and produce high‑quality written materials.
As a professional, you are reflective, organised and solution‑focused, able to manage competing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
You will hold a professional or degree‑level qualification or equivalent experience. This is an essential car user post and you must be able to provide a vehicle insured for business use.
