We are currently recruiting for the following position:
Social Worker - Learning Disability - Gateshead - £25 per hour
The Team
Our Learning Disability Team is part of Adult Social Care in Gateshead. It comprises Social Workers, Assessing Officers, a Senior Practitioner, and a Team Manager, working closely with other teams and external partners. The team is friendly and supportive, and new members will be welcomed warmly.
We adopt a conversational approach, emphasizing individual strengths and community support to help Gateshead residents lead fulfilling lives. The team provides assessments, interventions, and support to meet social care needs, focusing on wellbeing and independence. We promote early engagement, enabling individuals to access other agencies and tools to maintain physical and mental health, reducing reliance on long-term care where possible.
The team works with adults with learning disabilities. Knowledge of the Care Act 2014, associated legislation, and awareness of transition challenges for young people with additional needs are essential.
The Essentials
The Knowledge
* Understanding of relevant adult social care legislation, including The Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards 2015, Mental Health Act 2007 (Amended), Continuing Health Care, and Section 117.
* Ability to interpret legislation and apply it in practice, adhering to statutory responsibilities.
* Skills in analyzing information, assessing risks, and determining eligibility.
* Organizational skills for workload management and prioritization.
* Excellent IT and communication skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
* Commitment to anti-oppressive practice, equal opportunities, and inter-agency collaboration.
* Experience maintaining social care databases with accurate case documentation.
* Knowledge of social work theories and a person-centered, strengths-based approach.
The Experience
* Experience working with adults and carers with physical disabilities, mental health needs, and learning disabilities.
* Experience conducting assessments and identifying appropriate services.
* Understanding of review and monitoring processes.
* Experience managing risks and safeguarding.
* Ability to solve problems and document decisions promptly.
* Preparedness to respond to emergencies and participate in duty rotas.
Your skills and experience should include:
* A social work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
* Satisfactory completion of the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).
* Experience in social care, multi-agency work, and court environments, with knowledge of fostering regulations.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Understanding of legislation, models, and theories relevant to children’s social work.
* Good recording and planning skills.
* A valid UK driving license and access to a car.
Social workers should be available to cover their allocations and visit clients as needed. Home working may be permitted on occasion, subject to discussion during interviews.
