The post of Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) is a development post building on existing knowledge, skills and competencies to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Nurses work closely with the people who use our services, their families, friends and carers and play an important contribution in how people experience our services. Nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:
1. Keeping the people who using our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments.
2. Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence based policies and procedure.

Main duties of the job
This is an opportunity for qualified NMC registered nurses to apply for the SCPHN course for School Nursing commencing in September 2026 at King's College London.
This is a fully funded training opportunity, to qualify as a registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) and is open to all registered qualified Nurses. You will be given a fixed term one year full-time contract to undertake a PGDip Specialist Community Public Health Nurse course (School Nursing), find attached Job Description and Person Specification.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Patient Safety
Student School Nurses contribute to the provision of safe and reliable services by:
4. Using their clinical judgement and risk assessments to keep the people using our services as safe as possible
5. Safeguarding people by recognising and responding when a child or adult might be at risk from abuse but also recognising their own limits and asking for help and escalate concerns when necessary
6. Escalating safety concerns and by doing so acting as effective advocates for those who use our services
7. Being open and transparent about their own practice
8. Supervising the work of others
9. Reflecting on everyday practice to identify areas where improvements in safety or quality can be made
10. Working with others to create a culture of continuous improvement
11. Maintaining accurate, legible, comprehensive records
12. Maintaining compliance with their mandatory training requirements.
