Job Description
A Design Manager with a successful history of delivering the design elements of large-scale construction and infrastructure projects is sought after at London Gatwick Airport. If you have a proven track record of managing teams and delivering design for projects above £150m, this is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team and make a significant impact.
The airport's current projects, which range from £50m to £350m, include the International Departure Lounge (IDL) in the North and South Terminals, valued at over £500m, as well as a £140m extension to Pier 6.
As a Design Manager (Major Projects) at London Gatwick, you'll be instrumental in leading the design of strategically important, major building projects, typically exceeding £150 million in value.
You'll have the opportunity to work on the full project lifecycle, ensuring designs meet project requirements and deliver the best value for money. You'll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders up to board level and external design consultants, ensuring smooth processes, project progress, and budget adherence.
What is the role?
1. Reporting into the Programme Design Manager, you will play a key role in the team, responsible for owning the end-to-end design process from project start to completion. This includes overseeing smaller projects as required.

3. Developing project scopes that support the business needs
4. Finding innovative design solutions that are deliverable, meet GAL engineering standards, and are cost-effective
5. Developing clear and transparent design briefs for external design consultants
6. Managing and reviewing outputs of external design consultants to ensure quality, alignment with milestones, and governance requirements
7. Working with the Asset Information Team and stakeholders to determine asset information needs for design and construction contracts

* Experience in engineering design or design management, preferably in a live operational environment with safety-critical outcomes, managing multi-year infrastructure projects over £150m
* Knowledge of design, construction techniques, technical standards, and regulations, with experience addressing constructability challenges in major projects
* Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
* Degree or equivalent in architecture, engineering, or construction-related field
