Job Summary
The Laboratory Medicine department seeks an enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Assistant to support Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry and Specimen Reception. The post holder will provide technical, scientific and data entry assistance, contribute to diagnosis and treatment of patients and participate in a rota including weekend and night shifts.
Main Duties
* Collect, sort, prioritise and process samples in a busy environment while maintaining good working relationships with colleagues and service users.
* Activate requests and check that request forms and specimens are labelled according to laboratory policy.
* Under supervision, analyse samples received for testing.
* Store samples following completion of analysis into the appropriate storage system.
* Retrieve consumables and reagents from the stores, advising the senior BMS when stock becomes low.
* Use laboratory information management system (LIMS).
* Maintain stocks of reagents and consumables using the laboratory consumables ordering system.
* Observe all applicable safety regulations and attend mandatory and statutory training as required.
* Respond professionally to incoming telephone calls.
* Liaise regularly with section heads/seniors to ensure smooth running of the sections.
* Order, receive and store consumables & general goods delivered to the laboratory.
* Other duties as directed by the Department Manager or technical staff.
