Job description
My client is seeking an experienced Project Engineer with a focus on traffic management to join their team on a 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will be partnering with the Transport and Parking Service to identify and implement various traffic management and traffic control improvement schemes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Report to the Transport Engineering Manager and collaborate with colleagues to deliver project workstreams.
2. Develop concepts for improved traffic operation and translate them into project briefs for highway designers.
3. Oversee traffic system asset improvement schemes including traffic signals and Variable Message Sign (VMS) infrastructure.
4. Act as client lead, manage the design process, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
5. Manage scheme budgets and provide regular progress reports.
6. Conduct site visits in the Medway area and fulfil necessary attendance at the council premises as required.
7. Utilise personal ICT facilities, including Autocad and appropriate software plugins.
Job Requirements:
8. Extensive experience in transport, traffic, and traffic control systems, particularly in network improvement schemes.
9. Strong knowledge of local and national design standards and technical procedures.
10. Understanding of the 'Manual for Streets' principles and public realm incorporation within transport schemes.
11. Proven project management skills in traffic engineering capital projects.
12. Ability to investigate customer requests for highway changes and critically review existing infrastructure.
13. Experience in project concept initiation, brief preparation, scheme design oversight, consultation, budget management, and progress reporting.
14. Excellent understanding of Traffic Signs Manuals, TSRGD, and traffic management requirements.
15. Proficient in developing and producing designs for traffic management, pedestrian, and cycle movements.
16. Autocad drafting skills would be beneficial.
17. Ability to analyse complex information, including road safety data and traffic surveys, and develop effective solutions.
18. Strong communication skills to present complex information across various audiences.
