The Tetra Tech ecology team won the CIEEM Large Consultancy of the Year Award in 2023 and 2025 and the Large Scale Mitigation Award in 2023. We are looking for a technical, energetic and motivated senior ecologist who will thrive in a collaborative environment.
Role Outline
As Senior Ecologist you will lead ecological surveys and support a diverse range of projects across sectors such as energy, defence and infrastructure. Your expertise will help clients achieve their environmental goals while maintaining regulatory compliance.
The role requires strong field skills, the ambition to develop technical expertise, and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and with clients. You will provide support and feedback on project deliverables, mentor junior staff, and contribute to project quality and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Survey work and design: Plan, conduct and lead ecological field surveys, including protected species surveys, habitat assessments and ecological appraisals. Oversee data collection to ensure high‑quality and accurate results. Provide technical guidance to the national team where appropriate.
* Fee proposal, report writing and quality assurance: Produce detailed ecological reports, protected species licence applications, mitigation strategies and management plans. Prepare ecological chapters for Environmental Impact Assessments and Habitat Regulations Assessments. Draft clear and competitive fee proposals.
* Client engagement: Work closely with developers, planners and internal colleagues to provide ecological advice and solutions. Build and maintain strong client relationships with excellent communication and service.
* Project management: Actively project manage from inception to completion, ensuring that timelines, budgets and quality standards are met.
* Team development: Provide training and mentoring to junior ecologists. Foster a culture of continuous learning and support staff in obtaining protected species licences and charterships.
Requirements
* Appropriate academic qualification in a related discipline.
* Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
* Demonstrable and relevant experience within ecology/environmental consulting.
* Full driving licence.
