As Senior Risk, Control & Governance Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in embedding robust risk standards across our Operations teams, ensuring that our customers receive fair, safe, and dependable care experiences. Reporting to the Head of Operations Performance, you’ll advise senior leaders, manage incidents and controls, chair the Operations Risk Committee and guide regulatory governance—ensuring our way of working aligns with FCA and CQC expectations. This is a high-impact leadership role where your work will directly shape operational quality, customer safety and trust.
How you’ll help us make health happen:
1. Drive the implementation of risk and control frameworks across Operations, including Process Control Walkthroughs.
2. Manage incidents in line with Bupa policy—and ensure customer remediation for level 1 & 2 incidents.
3. Provide management information and monthly risk reporting to the Operations Director and Leadership Team.
4. Collaborate with first- and second-line Control & Risk teams to meet governance and audit standards.
5. Chair quarterly Risk Committees, ensuring effective escalation of key incidents and risks.
6. Oversee executive attestations, Governance Oversight Framework, and contribute to SMCR compliance.
7. Lead and develop a small team, fostering a strong risk culture with continuous improvement at its heart.
8. Support internal audit/ORCM actions, embedding lessons learned in business process and governance controls.
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:
Essential
9. Demonstrable background in UK financial services or regulated environments, with strong operational risk governance, risk control and incident management experience.
10. Proven leadership in establishing control frameworks and incident management practices.
11. In-depth knowledge of FCA/PRA rules (including ICOBS, TCF, financial crime, info security).
12. Skilled communicator who can influence senior stakeholders and simplify complex concepts.
13. Analytical thinker with a data-driven approach to MI, risk trends and decision-making.
Desirable
14. Experience with SMCR governance for senior leaders.
15. Prior exposure to CQC environment or insurance operations.
16. Degree or professional risk-related qualification (e.g. IRM, CISI).
