Overview

Shape the Future of Water Infrastructure with Egis
Egis is expanding rapidly across the UK, backed by a global team of more than 20,500 experts in sustainable infrastructure. In the UK Water team you will join an agile environment where progression is quick, visibility is high and your impact is immediate.

Responsibilities

* Lead the Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) design of municipal water and wastewater treatment projects across the UK, covering feasibility, concept, outline and detailed design for major programmes such as AMP₈, WINEP, SROs and others.
* Set and uphold the EICA design approach for treatment work, ensuring in‑house standards align with water industry asset standards and maintaining consistency of outputs across projects and teams.
* Fulfil designer duties under CDM 2015 for EICA systems, addressing hazardous area, electrical and control system risks and contributing to coordinated project‑level design risk management.
* Take ownership of the EICA scope within multidisciplinary delivery, driving clear decisions on operability, maintainability, access and whole‑life performance.
* Lead and assure core EICA deliverables, including development and review of technical specifications, calculations, reports, control philosophies, user requirement specifications, schedules, network architecture drawings and other design documentation; support inspection, testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT) and commissioning activities for ICA systems where required.
* Act as a senior client‑facing technical lead, running workshops and design reviews, advising clients and building long‑term relationships with regulated water stakeholders.
* Provide design assurance and technical support throughout delivery phases, reviewing contractor submissions, answering design queries, and supporting handover/commissioning activities.
* Grow the EICA capability through business development and work‑winning: identify opportunities, shape scopes, contribute to bids and build a healthy forward pipeline.
* Translate the UK water growth strategy into practical actions: target sectors, priority accounts, capability gaps and delivery plans focused on treatment.
* Build the EICA arm of the UK water consultancy team through recruitment, mentoring and skills development, including pathways, coaching and technical governance.
* Work with the wider business to evolve new and improved service offerings, including sustainability‑led and value‑focused EICA solutions for treatment assets.

Qualifications

* BEng/MEng (or equivalent) in Electrical and/or ICA‑specific engineering.
* Registered as a chartered engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional membership (e.g., MIET).
* Strong track record in the UK regulated water market, focused on municipal water and/or wastewater treatment.
* Demonstrated leadership across the design lifecycle: feasibility, concept, outline and detailed design, plus support through delivery stages.
* Practical expertise in EICA design for water and wastewater infrastructure, including preparation and review of specifications, control philosophies, system architecture and instrumentation documentation; sound understanding of DSEAR, electrical installations in hazardous areas and experience with testing, commissioning and multidisciplinary coordination.
* Knowledge of UK water industry standards, regulatory expectations and safety‑by‑design/CDM as applied to treatment facilities.
* Experience supporting projects delivered via frameworks, alliances and/or D&B models, including design review, technical query response and design assurance.
* Confident client and stakeholder manager; clear communicator, comfortable presenting and able to lead technical conversations with credibility.
* Evidence of business development or work‑winning contribution (or strong demonstrable aptitude) in opportunity shaping, bid inputs, client development and service‑line growth.
* People‑leadership experience: building teams, hiring and mentoring, and setting a positive, delivery‑focused culture.

Benefits

* Fast‑organic growth role with clear and accelerated career progression.
* Hybrid and flexible working arrangement.
* 26+ days annual leave plus bank holidays.
* Inclusive culture driven by sustainability and long‑term community impact.
* Access to Egis Foundation’s climate‑crisis initiatives and educational, social outreach programmes.
