Responsibilities
Receive and sort all foul linen from wards and departments. Wash all linen in appropriate machines as per instructions for each specific type. Dry all washed linen in appropriate machine, press, fold and pack all linen using appropriate equipment. Operate as part of a team when directed by Team leader/Supervisor. Keep floors and equipment clean at all times, regularly sweeping floors and removing lint from machines. Report faults in equipment to the Team leader/Supervisor. Ensure that personal conduct and hygiene are of the highest standard whilst on the hospital premises. Notify supervisor or other relevant staff of faulty equipment, building/equipment repairs, maintenance requirements, and requests for personal protective equipment/light equipment. Work in a safe manner and report any issues to supervisor immediately. Attend relevant training courses as directed and attend an annual appraisal, providing appropriate evidence. Prepare and deliver stock to wards, as per stock sheets on a top‑up basis, and record what has been issued. Keep open lines of communication with ward staff to ensure they are aware of where you are in the process of doing audits, stock takes, and deliveries. Use appropriate PPE when working in patient areas. Clinical Governance: The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary to submit to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous convictions.
Qualifications
* NVQ2/equivalent, a general understanding of why cleanliness in a patient/healthcare environment is important.
* Health and safety basic knowledge.
* Following departmental training, the post holder is required to: have a working knowledge of procedures and equipment relevant to post; operate mechanical and electrical machinery safely and effectively; have a knowledge of Health & Safety Policies and work procedures; have a knowledge of Infection Control Policy, Guidelines and Procedures; carry out their work effectively and safely; have the ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative.
* Have the ability to follow instructions.
* Possess good communication skills, including non‑verbal communication skills.
* Ability to respond constructively to unpredictable situations.
* Good Customer Care Skills.
* Prioritisation skills: ability to be flexible and adaptable.
