Overview
Residential Childcare Support Worker
Salary: Unqualified base salary £29,112.72 to £30,008.16 on successful completion of probation; Qualified base salary £30,641.52 (Qualified Support Worker salary is based on proven completion of a Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or equivalent).
Specific Hours: 08:00 to 20:00 on 12 hour shifts.
Location: Greater London area covering Camden, Haringey and Islington (Area Camden). The residential care we provide is for 11 to 18-year olds; our focus is on the needs of the child. The welfare of our young people is paramount in the role of a Support Worker.
Responsibilities
* Support the young people in our care to lead a life of positive development by providing a safe and nurturing environment.
* Provide emotional and social support to help them develop meaningful relationships with peers and adults, and encourage involvement with local communities.
* Encourage and enable each young person to build self-esteem and to be respected and valued.
* Support each young person to make positive life choices and achieve levels of independence aligned with their care plan, ensuring they receive essential care and attention.
* Maintain a high level of recording, including daily and monthly progress, updates to files, child protection records, notifications to appropriate people and health and safety checks. Continually assess the needs of the children and young people.
* Under the direction of the manager, contribute to the formulation, implementation and review of care plans. Work with the manager, team, health advisor, social workers, therapists, teachers and other professionals.
* Engage with the young people’s families, especially during supervised contacts. Support daily living needs in line with individual care plans. Carry out domestic duties within the home, plan, shop and prepare meals with a varied and well-balanced diet.
Required Attributes
* Ability to engage with young people in a positive and proactive way.
* Self-motivated with a positive nature; sensitive and reflective; able to listen and empathise.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Experience in the care sector or residential care; hold a relevant qualification or be committed to undertaking a Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare.
Benefits and Work Patterns
We are looking for passionate and caring individuals who we will support to gain a qualification. Bank holiday work is possible. Benefits include a robust induction and mandatory training, progression opportunities, and a weekly rota on rotation.
Typical examples of rota patterns include:
* 1 week: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday = 36 hours.
* 2 weeks: Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday = 48 hours.
Minimum average of 168 hours per calendar month. Waking Night contracts are also available. 236 hours annual leave per annum (including bank holidays) with holiday increases per year. Pension scheme after a qualifying period. Enrolment and funding to required qualification.
