Our client based in Thurso are currently recruiting for a Technical Specialist to join the team.
Main Tasks
• Stores work - bottle preparation and dispatch includes repetitive gripping and manual handling. Drums should not weigh more than 20Kg.
• Groundwater, surface water and drain sampling (inoculations required and provided) which
includes manual handling (training provided) to carry battery and equipment from transport.
Includes lifting manhole covers, kneeling and stooping.
• Walking on uneven ground
• Prolonged standing
• Driving Landrover, tractor, transit van and bowser. Hitching trailers on and off.
• Decontamination work (mainly using trowel). Occasional respirator/tyvex suit work.
• Take part in environmental monitoring programme EMProg Offsite sampling includes walking on rough, uneven ground, opening heavy farm gates, climbing fences (unless stile is available
• at crossing point), climbing up and down banks and walking over rocks and boulders. Involves remote working.
• Working with acid
Equipment:
All employees will be fully trained and competent in the use of the equipment recorded below.
• Vehicles
• Bowser - IBC containers with bunds for purge water as an alternative to the bowser if required
• Hand-held tools (spanners/screwdrivers)
• Occasional use of drill
• Manhole lifting key
• Operational monitoring
• Handheld recording equipment Trimble
• C50 and Alpha Solway respirators occasionally
• Use of pre-acidified bottles
• Working Conditions (including environment and location):
• The Operator and Technical Specialist spend much of their working day working outside all year round.
• Working in different terrains including rough ground, seashore.
• Working in confined spaces when doing milliscreen sampling only (rarely)
• Project Supervisors have a mix of office based, site areas and outside work
• Working in radiological designated areas
