Plumbing & Heating Engineer Location: Reading Contract: Permanent - Full-Time (36 hours per week) A leading UK university is seeking a Plumbing & Heating Engineer to join its Estates Reactive Maintenance team, supporting a large and complex academic estate. You will play a key role in delivering planned and reactive maintenance across plumbing, heating, gas and mechanical systems, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation across multiple campus buildings. This is a hands-on role within a busy estates team managing a diverse portfolio of academic, residential and commercial properties. Key Responsibilities: Installation, maintenance, fault finding and repair of plumbing, heating and mechanical systems Maintenance and testing of gas systems in line with current legislation Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works Supporting statutory inspections and compliance activities Acting as Authorised Person (subject to training) Supervising and liaising with specialist contractors Using CAFM systems to log works, risk assessments and compliance records Supporting apprentices and mentoring junior staff Participation in on-call rota (1 in 4/5 weekends, additional allowance payable) Essential Requirements: Recognised apprenticeship NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Plumbing & Heating (or equivalent) Strong experience in mechanical plant, heating and hot water systems Knowledge of gas safety legislation and compliance Experience in reactive and planned maintenance environments Full UK driving licence Gas Safe (Commercial desirable), BPEC Unvented, IOSH and experience within large estates environments are advantageous.
