Senior Backend Engineer II & III – M‑KOPA
Overview
We’re expanding our engineering team to build sophisticated event‑driven microservices that unlock financial inclusion across Africa. Join us as a Senior Backend Engineer to help scale infrastructure that powers over 7 million customers and supports more than $2 billion in credit.
What You’ll Do
* Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices using .NET, C# and Azure Kubernetes.
* Participate in end‑to‑end ownership: architecture decisions, code quality, production monitoring, and incident response.
* Implement event‑driven patterns and help the team migrate toward a fully decoupled architecture.
* Write automated tests, deploy via CI/CD pipelines, and enforce observability and monitoring in all environments.
* Collaborate across product, data, and data‑ops teams in a fully distributed setting.
* Contribute to knowledge sharing and mentoring within the engineering group.
Technical Environment
* C#/.NET (latest .NET stack)
* Microservices hosted on Azure with Kubernetes
* Event‑driven architecture with message brokers
* Legacy services coexist with greenfield microservices
What You Need
* Strong grasp of C# .NET development
* Experience with event‑driven systems and microservices architecture
* Proficient in automated testing and deployment across environments
* DevOps‑culture mindset and infrastructure‑as‑code experience
* Ability to collaborate effectively in distributed teams
* Continuous learning mindset and openness to feedback
