Operational Technology (OT) refers to the set of digital assets which are at the very heart of Anglian Waters industrial operations. Operational technology systems are deployed throughout our geographical region to enable remote monitoring and control of water collection,treatmentand distribution processes.
What will you be doing?
As an OT Field Engineer, your primary focuswill be the maintenance, repair, and commissioning of operational technology (OT) hardware, systems, and networks.This critical infrastructure is essential for the real-time monitoring and control ofoperationalplant and processes across our Water and Water Recyclingestate.
Key responsibilities:
1. Diagnostics,repairand replacementof OT field hardwareto include Telemetry outstationsand associated I/Omodules,Power supplies,PLCs andHMIs,Industrial Control Systems (ICS),Modems, Routers and Switches.
2. Undertake minor modifications to process automation and control systems asrequiredto support regulatory compliance and process continuity.
3. Undertake preventive maintenance activities on OT fieldhardware, systems/networks.
4. Perform firmware and software upgrades/patching of OT equipment tomaintainsecurity controls and compliance.
5. Support Water and Water Recycling operational teams during planned maintenance activities to ensure OT assets are correctly shut down and brough back onlineto mitigateoperational impact.
6. Undertake site surveys, installationand commissioning of OT hardware,systemsand networks.
7. Perform minor PLC modifications and Telemetry IOwiringchanges to support the introduction of new instrumentation and plant.
8. Provide technical on-site support to OT framework partners for the service integration of new,and ormodified OT field hardware, software,systemsand networks.
9. Undertakepost installationquality assurance auditsof new, or modified OT installations to ensure they adhere to defined standards.
What do you need?
Ideally be educated to HNC/HND (or equivalent) level or have time served experience in maintenance,commissioningor field service of electrical, instrumentation or telecommunications systems with a City and Guilds /NVQ level 3 electrical qualification.
Experienceof, andor formal training in programming and fault findingofProgrammable Logic Controller (PLC) or process control equipment would be an advantage, alongside some of thefollowing;
10. Ideally educated to at least ONC/HNC level in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (or equivalent experience).
11. Practical experience with the maintenance and repair of telemetry outstation hardware and software.
12. Proven ability to methodically troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems across integrated hardware and software systems.
13. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of PLC and HMI hardware and software, with specific experience in vendor platforms such as Rockwell and/or Schneider Electric.
14. Familiarity with site-level SCADA systems, ideally including Rockwell platforms.
15. Understanding and knowledge of industrial control networks and protocols (e.g., Ethernet, Fieldbus, RS232/485).
16. Understanding of IP networking principles (Ethernet/LAN/WAN) and IP addressing fundamentals
17. Knowledge of communication technologies relevant to dispersed sites (e.g., radio, mobile, ADSL).
18. Familiarity with industrial (OT) cybersecurity principles and controls.
19. Good working knowledge of DC/AC supplies, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, and Low Voltage (LV) electrical distribution installations.
