Head teacher (special educational needs)

Position Summary

Kisimul School Haverhill – Suffolk. Salary: Competitive. Kisimul Group Ltd provides exceptional residential care and award‑winning education to children, young people and adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, severe and complex learning difficulties, global developmental delay and associated challenging behaviour. We are seeking an experienced Headteacher for our Kisimul School Lincolnshire, Acacia site, the independent special school in Lincoln offering education for young people aged 11‑19, many of whom live in our associated children’s homes.

As Headteacher you will serve as the focal point for leadership of teaching, learning and assessment at the Haverhill school site. Your responsibilities include curriculum delivery, enabling growth within an excellent school environment, managing projected growth while maintaining complex placements, and working closely with Registered Care Managers to facilitate multi‑disciplinary interventions using integrated therapy teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead and maintain the quality of teaching, learning and assessment.
• Guide curriculum delivery and support staff development.
• Manage school growth and complex placement logistics.
• Collaborate with Registered Care Managers and integrated therapy teams.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, welfare, and DBS requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience in leading a special school or educational setting (preferably a similar age range).
• Strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment for learners with complex needs.
• Excellent interpersonal and team leadership skills.
• Ability to manage growth and complex placements effectively.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of adults, children and young people.
• All candidates must be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
