The Role

We are looking for a passionate, talented and organised Head of Physical Education to join our school to lead in the development and delivery of the Physical Education curriculum from September 2026.

As a state of the art new school completed in 2018, we pride ourselves on our excellent sports facilities linked to a new leisure centre. These facilities include a sportshall, dance studios, gym, 3 3G football pitches, 2 MUGAs for netball and tennis, 2 grass pitches for rugby and football and a full size athletics track.

Our Head of Physical Education will be an inspirational teacher with a proven track record of leading students to achieve outstanding results, who embraces creativity, innovation and is always looking for the very best practice in teaching. They will share the School's vision and the belief that all young people can achieve at high levels.

We are a Google school, with regular CPD specifically on new software and applications to enhance learning and systems designed to reduce paperwork and administration.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (IN ADDITION TO THE TEACHERS’ STANDARDS)

Leading Teaching and Learning

9. To monitor the quality of teaching and learning of all teachers within the Faculty regardless of subject specialism
10. To teach Physical Education at any level within the School (within the age range 11-18)
11. To design, maintain and monitor the delivery of the KS3, KS4 and KS5 curriculum for Physical Education in the School in terms of long, medium and short term planning
12. To ensure that all students are making good or outstanding progress in Physical Education and that teaching and learning across the School is of a high quality
13. To contribute to CPD across the School and share best practice via coaching, sharing planning and resources and following an 'open door' teaching policy
14. To ensure Physical Education has a high profile across the School through offering vibrant and exciting learning opportunities
15. To ensure that resources are organised and available to promote a purposeful environment for teaching and learning to take place, through a mix of traditional teaching techniques, integrating ICT where appropriate
16. To extend the curriculum via ACCESS Days and relevant trips, organising exciting visits from relevant speakers and visitors and leading enrichment programmes including the management of outside teachers and coaches
17. To promote high participation levels of Physical Education outside of the curriculum and to contribute to the extra-curricular enrichment activities of the School
18. To lead at least one annual sports tour per year for both boys and girls to help reward and showcase the achievements of our students
19. To lead intervention programmes during the School holidays, before / after School or during weekends as required
20. To deploy other adults effectively within the faculty and in the classroom, involving them, where appropriate, in the planning and management of student learning

Leading Progress and Attainment

21. To ensure assessment, feedback and monitoring is SMART, accurate and clearly moves students’ learning on across all teachers within the faculty
22. To standardise marking with colleagues both within the School and with partner schools
23. To hold the team to account via line management meetings, department meetings and by following the School’s Appraisal policy
24. To rigorously analyse student data to inform planning and intervention programmes
25. To lead and attend internal and external meetings as required
26. To feedback to students and parents / carers in line with the School policy

Leading Behaviour and Safety

27. To collaborate closely with parents to ensure that they are aware of their child's progress, engaged in their development and in supporting them in their vision for the future
28. To ensure the absolute safety of all students on and off site
29. To model and enforce excellent standards of behaviour within and beyond the faculty
30. To monitor students achievement, attendance, uniform, punctuality and behaviour and to respond promptly to issues in line with the school’s policies

Leading School Improvement

31. To embody the School’s values both on and off site
32. To contribute to the School’s Development Plan (SDP) To monitor allocated budgets and ensure value for money at all times
33. To coach and mentor colleagues as appropriate
