The Opportunity
Birmingham is rapidly becoming the "Silicon Canal" of the UK, with a booming tech sector and a massive investment in digital infrastructure. We are seeking an innovative Computer Science Teacher to join a forward-thinking academy at the heart of this digital revolution. In this role, you won't just teach students how to use technology; you will empower them to build it—transitioning from passive consumers to creative architects of the digital world.
The Department
* You will join a "Digital First" faculty that treats computing as a core literacy for the 21st century.
* The academy is a designated Technical Excellence College (TEC), benefiting from recent funding for state-of-the-art "Innovation Labs" equipped with high-spec VR kits, robotics (VEX/LEGO), and dedicated coding servers.
* We move beyond the standard curriculum by integrating AI Ethics, Cybersecurity, and Game Design into our Key Stage 3 projects.
* We have strong partnerships with Birmingham’s "Tech City" hubs, providing students with direct access to industry mentors, hackathons, and "live" brief projects with local software developers.
Core Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Delivery: Teaching Computer Science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (AQA/OCR), with the opportunity to lead A-Level Computer Science or specialized T-Level pathways in Digital Production.
2. Coding Mastery: Guiding students through the logic of high-level languages—primarily Python, but with exposure to C#, Java, and SQL for database management.
3. Physical Computing: Leading hands-on projects using Raspberry Pi and Arduino to help students understand the intersection of software and hardware.
4. Computational Thinking: Developing students' ability to decompose complex problems, recognize patterns, and design efficient algorithms.
5. Digital Inclusion: Running extracurricular "Code Clubs" and "Girls in Tech" initiatives to ensure every student in Birmingham sees a place for themselves in the industry.
The Successful Candidate We are looking for a digital visionary who stays ahead of the rapid pace of technological change. Requirements include:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
* Technical Breadth: Proficiency in at least one major programming language and a firm grasp of network architecture and cybersecurity principles.
* Industry Awareness: An understanding of the current tech landscape in the West Midlands and the ability to articulate why Computer Science is vital for the region’s economy.
* Engagement: A creative approach to teaching, perhaps using gamified learning platforms or project-based assessment to keep students motivated.
Why Join Us?
* A school that treats Computer Science as a flagship subject with significant investment in both hardware and staff CPD.
* Access to a regional network of digital educators and specialized training in AI-integrated pedagogy and advanced data science.
* The opportunity to work in Birmingham, a city with a young, vibrant population and a tech ecosystem that rivals London.
* Excellent transport links—our academy is centrally located, making it easily accessible via New Street Station and the West Midlands Metro.
