Job Overview
Our Accessibility team is small but very focused and efficient. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to define and introduce new concepts of Digital Accessibility. We are looking for someone comfortable working in a high-speed environment, where designs and requirements evolve quickly. You must have excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team spirit. You will be working collaboratively with User Researchers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Product and Content Designers, Engineers, and Testers. This role combines technical accessibility testing with a unique opportunity to collaborate directly with a blind colleague and expert screen reader user.
This role ensures BT Business digital products and systems meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards, while also enabling our colleague to carry out end-to-end testing without barriers. It involves addressing defects that prevent access (e.g. unlabeled controls, keyboard traps), performing complementary sighted checks, and embedding lived experience insights into our accessibility approach. Native users bring authentic and invaluable perspectives on real-world accessibility challenges. This role recognises and leverages that expertise, ensuring our products are not just compliant but genuinely usable for people with disabilities. Requirements for this position include being a solution‑driven individual and a critical thinker.
Responsibilities
* Conduct accessibility testing for both desktop and mobile applications (web, iOS, Android, native).
* Perform functional, compliance, and usability testing against WCAG 2.2 AA standards and related legislation (Section 508, Equality Act, EAA).
* Collaborate directly with a blind colleague to:
o Support them in overcoming system barriers that prevent access during testing.
o Enable them to perform full WCAG testing where defects would otherwise block progress.
o Perform complementary sighted checks (e.g. colour contrast, focus indicators, layout clarity).
o Capture and upscale issues identified through lived experience testing.
* Review design mock‑ups and prototypes for accessibility considerations, providing on‑the‑fly feedback and formal acceptance reviews.
* Produce accessibility documentation including audit reports, VPAT®/Conformance reports, and customer‑facing summaries.
* Work with development and product teams to triage, prioritise, and resolve accessibility defects.
* Contribute to accessibility enablement across the organisation by:
o Running training sessions and workshops.
o Offering guidance on accessible content and inclusive design practices.
o Advocating for the needs of users with disabilities and promoting awareness of accessibility issues.
