The Mechanical Technician position is part of the Technologies group based in Farnborough, Hampshire. The role reports to the Production Supervisor supporting the precision electro-mechanical assembly of high-value imaging products and systems, including nuclear and high-temperature cameras.
Purpose of the Role
To assemble mechanical and optical components into finished products, ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to engineering specifications. This includes optical lens assembly and light soldering tasks.
Key Responsibilities
* Assemble imaging cameras and systems using detailed engineering drawings and company procedures
* Coil Winding
* Collaborate with team members to meet or exceed production timelines
* Communicate effectively with supervisors and stakeholders to resolve manufacturing issues.
* Ensure products are built to specification and within planned timeframes
* Maintain high standards of quality and consistency across all builds

* Support departmental goals for on-time delivery and production efficiency
* Ensure uniform build quality across all mechanical assemblies
* Accurately record time spent on tasks and submit weekly timesheets
* Verify product readiness for transfer to subsequent departments
* Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
* Use resources efficiently to meet production goals
* Complete production and quality documentation accurately
* Follow and contribute to continuous improvement of production procedures
Qualifications & Experience
* Time-served apprenticeship in mechanical engineering or equivalent
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or production environment
* Proficient in interpreting and working from complex engineering drawings
* Skilled in mechanical assembly and confident in raising queries when specifications are unclear
* Competent in operating workshop machinery: Pillar Drill, Lathe, Milling, and Grinding equipment
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Proficient in using MRP systems and digital drawing viewers
