Job Summary

What you’ll do…

As the Mechanical Engineering Area Fleet Manager you will play a key role in the safety management of our maintenance provision and help to develop the high quality of service delivery required to support business units across Forestry England and wider agencies. You will hold overall responsibilities to ensure all Vehicle, Machinery and Equipment (VME) meet the required compliance and are maintained in accordance to manufacturer guidance and company policy utilising your team to achieve this. Where you’ll work…

The role will be based at our offices at Santon Downham, Norfolk and you will be expected to work flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing a wide range of specific administrative duties and work with colleagues who are based at different sites. To support this, some infrequent travel may be required. The area covered by Santon Downham office are the East, South and West forest districts and all business units with in these. Head office for Mechanical Engineering is based at Bellingham Northumberland.

Job Description


* management of staff to maximise their performance and ensure business objectives are met
* manage the service, maintenance and repair of the fleet to ensure customer satisfaction whilst monitoring both repair costs and availability of key machines
* ensure that all vehicle, machinery and equipment have a minimum 12 monthly inspection to ensure that it meets all relevant safety and service requirements
* prepare and submit an annual budget proposal and analyse monthly budget progress
* ensure that good working relationships are maintained with customers through regular liaison meetings
* ensure that there is a robust understanding and compliance with Health and Safety policies

Person specification

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential professional and technical experience

* able to demonstrate aptitude of technical, maintenance and health and safety involved in running LCV, forestry machinery, agricultural tractors and attachments as well as small equipment such as quads, trailers and chainsaws
* full UK manual driving license Qualifications

Essential

* recognised mechanical engineering Qualifications (or Relevant Demonstrable Experience)

Desirable

* recognised fleet management Qualification
* H&S qualification such as IOSH Managing Safely
