Job Description
Glasgow Equine Practice was launched in June 2020 as a predominantly ambulatory practice based at, and working closely with, the School's equine hospital. The practice's values reflect those of the Division: delivering high-quality patient care through evidence-based medicine and excellent customer service; providing a fulfilling student learning experience; and staff development through engagement with scholarship.
The practice contributes to the Division's and School's activities in:
* Teaching and assessment of students, focusing on final-year students in a practice setting.
* Supporting and increasing the caseload of Glasgow Equine Hospital.
* Enhancing the Division's and School's reputation through high-quality patient care and customer service.
* Collaborative clinical research.
Job Purpose
To contribute to the activities of the Division of Equine Clinical Sciences by developing, managing, and contributing to the clinical service offered by Glasgow Equine Practice.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical:
* Develop and contribute to the clinical service of Glasgow Equine Practice.
* Update personal skills and knowledge relevant to equine practice.
* Stimulate growth in practice and hospital caseloads through referrals.
* Participate in promotional activities and out-of-hours service (currently 1 in 4 rota).
* Ensure clinical quality assurance measures are in place.
* Provide leadership to staff associated with the practice.
* Develop a professional profile locally and internationally.
* Maintain compliance with RCVS CPD requirements and postgraduate qualifications.
Teaching:
* Contribute to planning, delivery, and development of teaching activities for final-year BVMS students.
* Participate in assessments and examinations, providing timely feedback.
* Innovate teaching approaches to enhance educational opportunities.
Scholarship:
* Complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice and other Early Career Development Programme components.
* Engage in personal scholarship and interdisciplinary clinical research.
* Contribute to clinical research projects and attend national/international seminars.
Administration:
* Support the development of a high-quality equine practice.
* Work towards the RCVS Practice Standards Award within two years.
* Contribute to staff performance reviews and development.
Additional responsibilities for Grade 8 include providing leadership, supervision, mentorship, and strategic development of the practice.
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential: Veterinary degree, RCVS registration prior to employment.
At Grade 8: Postgraduate clinical qualification in equine practice (e.g., RCVS Certificate, Advanced Practitioner status).
Desirable: Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, research training (MSc/PhD).
Skills and Experience
Essential: Proven clinical service delivery, broad equine practice expertise, excellent communication, strategic thinking, teamwork, and professional presentation skills.
At Grade 8: Leadership experience, supervision, mentorship, and evidence of research contribution.
Terms and Conditions
Part-time, 21 hours/week, open-ended. Salary Grade 7/8, with out-of-hours allowance. Eligibility for UK work and visa sponsorship details provided.
Enrolment in the University’s Early Career Development Programme included.
