* Job Title: Inspections Engineer
* Job Type: Permanent
* Hours: 40 hours per week

* Field Based covering Oxford, Cambridge, Northampton up to the Midlands
We are looking for a competent and professional Inspector to deliver independent, high‑quality technical inspections across a range of industrial assets. Acting on behalf of SGS, you will assess asset condition against defined specifications, apply sound engineering judgement, and report findings with integrity, accuracy, and impartiality.
This is a safety‑critical role within a Type A inspection body, requiring strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence in health, safety, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out statutory and non‑statutory inspections safely, accurately, and on time, ensuring all findings are independently assessed, objectively reported, and compliant with quality standards, customer requirements, and KPIs.
* Apply sound technical and engineering judgement, using knowledge of asset failure and degradation mechanisms to support inspection decisions and provide limited technical and legislative guidance within defined scope.
* Maintain full compliance with inspection scopes, procedures, policies, and reporting guidelines, acting at all times with integrity .
* Proactively manage health, safety, and environmental risks by conducting robust risk assessments, using SGS‑issued equipment correctly, and championing safe working behaviours in line with legislation and company policy.
* Support departmental performance by providing technical guidance to colleagues and delivering all inspection activities in a commercially focused manner that contributes to service quality and profitability.
Qualifications
* Engineering Technician level qualification, ONC with relevant experience, or recognised engineering apprenticeship in a relevant discipline (RG Categories 3, 4(a) or 4(b)).
* Good working understanding of LOLER, PSSR and NDT techniques
* Awareness of SAFed technical guidance applicable to statutory inspection activities.
* Willingness to undertake further training identified during induction and throughout employment to maintain accredited scope.
* Full Valid DrivingLicence for use in the UK
* HNC/HND in a relevant engineering discipline (RG Category 2).
* Membership of a recognised professional engineering institution (IEng level or equivalent), with a strong CPD and statutory inspection training record.
* Industry certifications such as CCSNG Passport to Safety, LEEA qualifications, IOSH Working Safely, IPAF, Confined Space, Working at Height, and Wire Rope Examiner.
