As Veterinary Support Manager, you’ll play a key role in upholding this mission by leading and supporting a team of Procedure Technicians and Veterinary Nurses. You’ll be responsible for maintaining high standards of animal welfare, overseeing trial-related procedures for Waltham’s research programs and ensuring the delivery of excellent veterinary care, What are we looking for? Degree in a Scientific Discipline (Essential) – Preference for Veterinary Surgeon or Veterinary Nursing degrees (with RCVS eligibility) Leadership Experience – Proven experience in people management and building high-performing teams. Veterinary Care Expertise – Background in research colony health care, small animal practice, or trial-related procedures is preferrable. Strong Collaboration Skills – Ability to work cross-functionally within a research and scientific environment. Key Responsibilities: Lead & Develop the Team – Line manage a team of up to 12 associates, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development. Deliver High-Quality Veterinary Care & Research Support – Ensure veterinary services are delivered safely, ethically, and in line with Waltham and Home Office standards. Drive Operational Excellence – Oversee daily operations, prioritizing resources effectively while maintaining a strong focus on animal welfare. Champion Training & Competency – Support the Named Training and Competency Officer (NTCO) to ensure all team members and personnel on-site are trained and competent in animal care and handling. Foster Innovation & Continuous Improvement – Identify opportunities to enhance veterinary care, welfare, and research methodologies. Ensure Safety & Compliance – Promote a culture of safety and well-being, managing risk assessments and upholding best practices. Provide Hands-on Support – Occasionally participate in operational veterinary work (if a veterinary professional), including the on-call veterinary rota.
