Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Department of Clinical Microbiology at King's Mill Hospital for an enthusiastic and highly motivated HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) to join our dedicated team.
We are seeking a committed individual with a strong interest in microbiology and a passion for delivering high-quality diagnostic services. The successful candidate will be an effective team player with excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to laboratory work.
Key Responsibilities
* HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
* Completion of the IBMS Registration Specialist Portfolio in Microbiology
* Experience working within a Clinical Microbiology laboratory
* Perform a wide range of bacteriological, serological and molecular microbiological investigations, providing accurate and timely diagnostic reports
* Identify causative organisms of infection and interpret antimicrobial susceptibility results to support optimal patient management
We will consider a current Band 5 HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist working in diagnostic Microbiology with relevant experience and in the process of completing the IBMS specialist portfolio. This will be paid as Annex 21 under Agenda for Change conditions.
Qualifications
* Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered as a Biomedical Scientist
* IBMS Certificate of Competence in Biomedical Science (BSc) or equivalent acceptable by the Health Professions Council
* European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
Experience
* Significant specialist training in a Clinical Microbiology laboratory sufficient to demonstrate competence in the portfolio of specialist training
* Experience in serology and molecular techniques
Knowledge Requirements
* Relevant theoretical, practical and scientific knowledge to underpin the technical aspect of a laboratory service
Further Training
* Participation in Continued Professional Development (CPD)
Contractual Requirements
* 37.5 hours per week
* 5 days per week out of 7
* Participation in the out-of-hours on‑call service

Salary
£39,959 to £48,117 a year, pro rata.
