Locum Consultant Hepatologist
Apply to join the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust as a Locum Consultant Hepatologist. Job Summary
Applicants should bring strong clinical experience in hepatology, experience with endoscopy, and a commitment to teaching and research. A special interest in immune liver disease and support for young adults transitioning from paediatric to adult services is highly desirable. Experience in medical education is essential, and additional sub‑specialist interests may be negotiated.
Main Duties
* In‑patient and out‑patient management of general hepatology, endoscopy, and emergency GI bleeding.
* Policy and service development: develop Hepatology Clinical Pathway Groups in line with Trust strategy.
* Clinical governance: achieve IQILS accreditation and ensure compliance with the CQC framework.
* Financial and physical resources: responsible where appropriate.
* Team leadership: lead and manage the Hepatology team alongside consultant colleagues.
* Information management: maintain patient databases.
* Teaching and training: deliver education to undergraduates, trainees, junior clinical fellows, foundation trainees, and the multidisciplinary workforce.
* Research and audit: conduct work in line with Trust requirements.
Person Specification
Essential
* MBBS or equivalent.
* Registered on the specialist register of the GMC for Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine with subspecialist accreditation in Hepatology.
* Registered with the GMC and within 6 months of being accepted for the specialist register for Gastroenterology with subspecialist accreditation.
* Demonstrable knowledge of service challenges and the working environment.
* Ability and skills to be a leader in the field; commitment to personal development and high ethical standards.
Desirable
* Postgraduate medical degree.
* Fellowship / Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent.
* Independent in diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy.
* Interest and experience in basic or clinical research, including successful completion of a research degree.
