Description Job Description Are you seeking an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in a high-profile, fast paced Ministerial commitment, providing a huge opportunity to improve children’s experience of justice, care and recovery services? You will be based in the Bairns’ Hoose Unit in the Children’s Rights, Protection and Justice Division in Children and Families. You will support the overarching strategic objectives of Bairns’ Hoose to offer children and families streamlined and timely access to protection, justice, health and recovery services, while preventing re-traumatisation - and putting the child at the centre of all processes. Bairns’ Hoose principles are founded on Scotland’s legislative and policy approach to improve outcomes for children, young people and families, therefore you will support key principles such as Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) and will contribute to key actions in the Scottish Government’s Keeping the Promise Implementation Plan, ‘Best Start, Bright Futures: Tackling Child Poverty Delivery Plan 2022 to 2026.’ and Refreshed Equally Safe Strategy 2023. Bairns’ Hoose also contributes to the realisation of Scotland’s Vision for Justice. Responsibilities Lead on Bairns’ Hoose policy development for Children and Families Directorate - developing and maintaining positive working relationships and links with internal policy areas, as well as external stakeholders, that have an interest in Bairns’ Hoose - with support from the policy officer. Produce and update core briefs (including FMQs), Ministerial briefing, as and when required, including providing briefing contributions for wider SG policy colleagues. Lead on Children and Young People participation and engagement workstream – ensuring that the voices of children who have been affected by trauma are at the centre of Bairns’ Hoose development. Contribute to the overall Bairns’ Hoose programme by providing input into the various strands of the programme, leading where required, such as budgetary processes, financial and grant management and procurement. Line management of a Justice policy officer. Support the Bairns’ Hoose Pathfinder Programme and its delivery partners, by providing advice and support through their journey of Bairns’ Hoose development. Maintain links with stakeholders, coordinating and presenting at regular meetings and engagements. Work collaboratively with the team to develop impact assessments, as required, to support the delivery of the programme. This post can be based in Victoria Quay, Edinburgh or Atlantic Quay, Glasgow, with hybrid working arrangements in place in line with Scottish Government policy. You will be expected to attend in-person meetings, as well as stakeholder events and meetings in Scottish Government locations according to business needs therefore some travel within Scotland will be required.
