The Oxford Christmas Market takes place in the heart of the city during November and December, transforming the streets into a festive wonderland. Visitors can browse traditional wooden stalls offering handcrafted gifts, perfect for unique presents and stocking fillers. Seasonal food and drink are at the heart of the event, with mulled wine, street food, and sweet treats adding to the festive cheer. Live entertainment, twinkling lights, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere make it a highlight of Oxford's Christmas celebrations.
Job Summary:
The Event Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Christmas Market, ensuring the event runs smoothly, safely, and successfully. This role involves managing staff, coordinating with vendors and entertainers, monitoring budgets, and delivering an exceptional visitor experience. The Event Manager will serve as the central point of contact on-site, providing leadership and resolving any issues that arise in a professional and efficient manner.
Duties/Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage on-site staff, including bar, catering, and cleaning teams, ensuring high standards of performance and welfare
* Oversee set-up, daily operations, and close-down of the market
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations across all areas
* Act as the main liaison with vendors, suppliers, and entertainment acts, ensuring smooth scheduling and delivery of services
* Manage and monitor event budgets, controlling costs while maximising revenue opportunities
* Resolve escalated customer or vendor issues promptly and professionally
* Coordinate with the Operations Manager to maintain seamless operations
* Prepare event reports, including attendance, financials, and customer feedback
* Uphold the festive and welcoming atmosphere of the market, ensuring a positive experience for all visitors

Experience:
* A minimum of 3 years' experience in event management or a related field is required
* Proven experience leading a team in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
* Experience working on outdoor or seasonal events is highly desirable
Physical Requirements:
* Prolonged periods of standing and walking in outdoor weather conditions
* This role may occasionally require "all hands on deck" support, such as assisting with customer service or stock movement
