About the Business Division

The Water Utilities Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland’s water and wastewater challenges. Our multidisciplinary teams provide advisory services, feasibility studies, and detailed design to ensure safe water supplies, prevent urban flooding, and protect river and coastal environments.


Overview Of The Role

We seek a motivated professional to support the water sector in becoming more efficient, resilient to climate change, and on the path to Net Zero. You will work within multidisciplinary teams, learn on the job, and deliver projects that make a difference.

The Asset Management and Infrastructure Planning Team is one of five sub‑sectors within our Water Consultancy Division. We operate in the UK and internationally, focusing on:

* Water resource investment planning
* Wastewater and bioresources investment planning
* Strategic asset management and business planning
* Technical assurance of operational performance and business cases
* Carbon and net‑zero appraisal and strategic planning
* Integrated systems management
* Data analytics and decision‑support tools
* Contract appraisal (NEC, PPP)

We are looking for professionals with at least five years of asset management experience in the water sector, aiming for a long‑term career and professional membership of the Institute of Asset Management.


Key Responsibilities And Duties

* Assist the technical delivery of asset management advisory projects, interacting frequently with clients.
* Contribute to the development of project outputs, including investment business cases and reports.
* Support business development activities, including client engagement and project proposal preparation.
* Facilitate asset management capability assessments and identify improvement areas.
* Support project and budget management, team coordination, and compliance with PM procedures.
* Undertake identified training to support technical excellence.
* Perform data analysis to support project delivery.


Candidate Specification


You Will Have Experience In The Following

* Asset planning or asset strategy
* Risk assessment and management
* Investment appraisal or cost‑benefit analysis
* Investment planning or programme optimisation
* Resilience assessment and planning
* Developing decision‑support tools
* Performance monitoring and reporting
* Some experience or knowledge of ISO 55000 or another ISO standard


Essential

* Degree qualified in an environmental or related subject
* Chartered status (ICE, CIWEM or similar) or demonstrable progress towards chartership
* Industry experience in asset management, ideally in a water company or consultancy
* Critical thinking and analytical skills
* Strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills
o Ability to review complex documents, summarise and present key issues clearly
* Project management, client liaison and consulting skills
* Willingness to undertake assignments across the UK and short international visits


Desired

* Certificate or Diploma in Asset Management from the Institute of Asset Management
* Assurance/audit experience, including ISO auditing
* Commercial awareness and project proposal preparation
* Organisational change management
* Chartership with a relevant environmental or asset management institution
* Willingness to embrace training in decarbonisation, climate resilience, systems thinking, nature‑based solutions and circular economy
* Broader awareness of environmental and social disciplines
