Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Assistant Practitioner in Mammography within our Breast Screening Department based at Ayrshire Central Hospital. This post is offered on a permanent / fixed-term basis / secondment basis.


Hours:

28.8 hours per week.

From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.


UK Driving Licence:

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.


What you will do:

The Assistant Practitioner will work as part of the Breast Screening service multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of a high-quality, safe and efficient mammography service across the static and mobile locations. The post holder will perform delegated clinical imaging procedures, primarily screening mammography, following appropriate training, competency assessment and under the supervision of registered Radiographers / Practitioners. The role will contribute to service capacity, patient experience and workflow efficiency while maintaining compliance with national screening standards, IRMER regulations and local governance policies. The Assistant Practitioner will also support equipment quality assurance, patient care, administrative processes and service development initiatives within the department.


Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post:

Educated to SCQF level 7 (e.g. HNC in Healthcare practice, HNC radiography support or equivalent relevant qualification) or equivalent experiential learning within a healthcare or care environment involving direct patient contact.

Completion of or willingness to undertake a recognised Assistant Practitioner Mammography training programme. Successful applicant will complete a Higher education certificate in Mammography qualification provided by the Scottish Academy of Breast Imaging (SABI) if required.
