This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

Join a policing organisation committed to identifying and protecting vulnerable people, preventing and responding to harm and keeping people safe. As a Data Engineer, you’ll support the delivery of trusted, high-quality data that powers critical decisions across the organisation.
We’re transforming our cloud and data platforms and are looking for an enthusiastic early-career Data Engineer to help grow our data capability using modern cloud technologies, including Microsoft Fabric. This is an opportunity to learn, develop, and contribute to meaningful, real-world outcomes.
What You’ll Do
1. Support the design, build and maintenance of secure, scalable cloud data solutions.
2. Develop and maintain data pipelines using SQL, Python and Fabric Data Factory within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.
3. Assist with the modernisation of our data warehouse and contribute to Lakehouse architecture initiatives.
4. Work closely with Senior Data Engineers to deliver reliable data pipelines.
5. Monitor and troubleshoot legacy data pipelines, resolving issues and supporting performance optimisation.
Skills & Experience
What You’ll Bring
6. Some hands-on experience or strong foundational knowledge in data engineering and cloud platforms (Microsoft Fabric or Azure desirable).
7. Working knowledge of SQL and/or Python, with an interest in developing advanced skills.
8. Understanding of data modelling concepts and modern data architectures (e.g. lakehouse or Medallion approaches).
9. Familiarity with version control (Git) and an interest in CI/CD practices.
10. Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn from experienced data engineers.
11. Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
12. A proactive, solution-focused mindset with a genuine interest in building a career in data engineering.
