Operations Manager – Energy from Waste
Location: Glasgow
Salary: Circa £75,000 base plus excellent benefits and bonus
About the Role
Our client is a leading organisation within the UK’s resource recovery and Energy from Waste (EfW) sector, committed to delivering safe, efficient, and sustainable operations that support the transition to a low-carbon future.
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Manager to join a high-performing EfW facility in Glasgow, working Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week). This is a key leadership role within the site management team, offering the chance to drive operational excellence, safety performance, and people development within a complex, process-led environment.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Operations Manager will provide day-to-day operational leadership across the site, with direct line management responsibility for Shift Team Leaders and operational staff.
Working closely with the Engineering Manager and EHS Manager, you will play a central role in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient plant operation while driving continuous improvement, performance optimisation, and employee engagement.
You will be accountable for maintaining high operational standards, delivering against site KPIs, and identifying opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities

Provide strong operational leadership across the EfW facility

Line manage, coach, and develop Shift Team Leaders and site personnel
*
Drive a positive safety culture and ensure full compliance with site and regulatory requirements

Monitor and improve operational performance, availability, and efficiency
*
Review and optimise operating procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery
*
Lead continuous improvement initiatives and support best-in-class operational practices
*
Collaborate closely with engineering and EHS teams to deliver site objectives
*
Support staff engagement, capability development, and succession planning
About You
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership capability and proven experience operating within regulated, safety-critical environments.
You will ideally have:

Extensive people management experience at a senior level within an operational or industrial environment
*
Proven experience implementing and working within corporate management systems
*
Strong operational knowledge within Energy from Waste, power generation, utilities, or related process industries
*
A track record of motivating teams and driving performance improvement
*
A technical qualification at ONC / HNC / HND level (or equivalent)
*
Full UK driving licence
Experience within EfW, power generation, or similar industrial operations is highly desirable, though candidates from adjacent sectors will be considered
